E-Therapy

Although traditionally, therapy and psychological intervention has taken place face to face. More and more evidence is emerging on the benefits and effects of
E-Therapy. There can be many reasons for preferring to undertake remote therapy. You may struggle to get to appointments due to time or family commitments, you may want to see a clinician that is not located close to you, or you may find the screen a more helpful way to communicate your distress and share your story. Whatever the reason, I am able to offer you E-Therapy if that is your preferred method.

Before we embark on e-therapy it will be important to discuss this either on the phone or on a video call. Below are some of the key considerations you want to take into account:

1. Firstly, the video software we use needs to be encrypted and adhere to GDPR to reassure you that all information is kept with the strictest confidence in line with national guidelines on data management. I use specific video software that meets these strict criteria such as; Aspit meet or google meet.

2. Secondly, we both need to ensure that we have good and reliable Wi-Fi or internet access. We do not want the internet access to interfere with a therapy session.

3. The technical equipment should be tested prior to a session e.g., sound and picture

4. Fourthly, you need to think carefully about where you are sitting. Preferably you are in an environment you feel safe, that is not too personal e.g., not your bedroom and ideally in a comfortable chair as most sessions last approximately 50 minutes.

5. Finally, distractions, such as other family members or friends coming in and out of the room, TV and radio should be kept at a minimum so you can concentrate on the session. Wearing headphones is one way of ensuring full attention on the conversation during e therapy
